Spanish-Speaking Countries

Announcements from our 2008 and 2009 performances

About Us

Folclor Hispano

is a dance group at The Ohio State University that strives to learn and perform traditional dances of Spanish-speaking countries. Through dance and music members have an opportunity to experience and share with the community the vibrant folkloric expressions of these countries.

Folclor Hispano, began as a community-based group in March of 1990, focusing on dances from different regions of Mexico and presenting these at festivals and schools in the Columbus area. With the encouragement of OSU student members and university faculty and staff, in the fall of 1997 Folclor Hispano became an official student organization at Ohio State.

Members are from the University and Columbus community and are of different ages, professions, and backgrounds sharing a common interest in Hispanic culture.  Throughout the years we have presented dances from Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the Dominican Republic. We continually add to our repertoire as new members join who have the expertise and knowledge to teach new pieces. New dance members are encouraged to join us beginning autumn quarter and commit to the practices on a regular basis through May to prepare for our annual spring performance.

With the support of the University we have been able to provide to the public an exciting and educational experience of culture and art through dance, music, and costumes.
