Folclor Hispano
About Based in Columbus, Ohio, Folclor Hispano is a dance group at The Ohio State University that strives to learn and perform traditional dances from Spanish-speaking countries. Through dance and music members have an opportunity to experience and share with the community the vibrant folkloric expressions of these countries. Beginning as a community-based group in March of 1990, Folclor Hispano focuses on dances from different regions of Mexico and presenting these at festivals and schools in the Columbus area. With the encouragement of OSU student members and university faculty and staff, in the fall of 1997 Folclor Hispano became a student organization at The Ohio State University. Throughout the years we have added to our repertoire as new members join who have the expertise and knowledge to teach new pieces. Our performances have included dances from Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the Dominican Republic. Our advanced dancers have taught children groups organized by Centro Esperanza and the Hispanic Coalition of Ohio presenting these at the Festival Latino, local schools and events, as well as in Folclor Hispano’s annual dance performance. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
